How to make a key chain?

A leather tassel key chain is a unique gift that you can give to your loved ones, friends or relatives. But, the real joy is of making it at home & gifting it to your close ones. It is a great homemade gift idea. So, why not get on to making it?

You need:

  • Faux Leather Cording (You may use gold, white, pink and turquoise)
  • Wooden beads
  • Little carabiners(or simple key rings)
  • Unfinished Wood Beads
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue
  • Tweezers or Jewelry Pliers(optional)

Step 1:

Cut a piece of leather cord a little bit longer than you need, then loop it around the inside of the key ring so that the cord is folded in half. Take both ends simultaneously in your hands & tie a big knot right at the very top of the cord. You may use white, gold, pink and turquoise faux leather cording.

Step 2:

String a wooden bead onto one of the cords. Then take the other cord and put it through the bead in the opposite direction. It is a bit difficult to fit the cord through the bead but little tweezers will be highly helpful.

Tip: You need to make sure that the inside of the bead is clear of any excess wood that can get in the way.

Step 3:

Pull the cords so the bead fits near the knot. Then repeat the same process with two more beads. Make sure that your leather cord isn’t twisted when you put it through the beads.

Step 4:

Once you’ve finished adding the beads, you could simply tie another knot and trim the ends. However, you can also add a funny little tassel to the end. Cut 4 pieces of leather cord about 3 inches long each.

Step 5:

Center the new pieces of cord right under the bottom bead. Then tie a knot around them with the original two cords.

Step 6:

Cut another piece of cord about an inch or so long. You can test it to make sure it’s big enough to wrap around all the cords together. Then use a hot glue gun to attach it and wrap it slightly around the leather cords. Secure the end with a touch of hot glue.

And there you are finally ready. You can use these gift items as key chains. You may hook them on your wallet or purse.
